Welcome!

Therapy is a space dedicated to exploring where you are on your journey and where you would like to go. We consider places where you feel stuck, patterns of relationships, your thoughts and values, the strengths and resources you already possess, feelings that seem unmanageable, and the cast of characters in your story. Together we consider the risk of change, as you seek to take the next steps in your life

What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing is a counseling modality that uses the Adaptive Information processing model to address the effect of trauma on a client and “the multifaceted impact of reprocessing all aspects of negative maladaptive information to adaptive, healthy and useful resolution (e.g. change of belief, elicitation of insight, increase in positive effects, change in physical sensation, and behavior,” (Shapiro, 2018).

In other words, EMDR as a counseling modality helps to process the places trauma makes us stuck and helps us to transform the narrative we have about ourselves and the world and the way that we experience distress in our bodies.

Counseling provides a safe space for someone to discover and experience where they are, how they got there, where they want to go, and the steps it will take to get there. Inherently relational, counseling is built upon a foundation of trust between the therapist and the client. The therapist seeks to build a collaborative and supportive relationship for the client to change and to heal in whatever capacity they choose. Counseling is not a checklist, quick fix or advice. The process is not linear and sometimes can feel distressing, but the goal of counseling is that the client is not alone in their feelings and experiences, but is supported and safe. My goal is to provide resources and support, whether that be in coping skills or trauma informed therapy, so that what has been unmanageable becomes manageable and so that the client feels more connected to themselves and to others.
